Markham / Millet

... I just remembered this other painting/poem combo:

What gulfs between him and the seraphim!
Slave of the wheel of labor, what to him
Are Plato and the swing of Pleiades?

The painting is called L'homme à la houe by Millet. He was a realist - which during his time probably meant you were a socialist. (which certainly comes through in Markham's poem)
